Karen Books

Literacy maintenance is strongly related to cultural preservation. SEAP's purposes for posting these books are:

  • To support the Karen families who are teaching Karen culture and language literacy to their younger children;
  • To maintain Karen literacy amongst the older children and adults; and
  • To support the ESL teachers, sponsors and others who are encouraging Karen people to preserve their languages.

Please download and print these books to preserve Karen culture and language. Permission to reproduce the books has been granted by the publishers.

A special thanks to Rachael Ashdown and her mother Christine Ashdown for their efforts in scanning these books and making this page possible. Other important contributers to the Karen Electronic Book Project are Margaret Myers, June Locke, Paw Pha, Paw Day Lar, WinBer and Alicia Irwin.
