The Dobama Movement in Burma (1930-1938)

Khin Yi
Publication Year:
Publication Number:

Ignored or merely alluded to in previous historical studies of Burma, the Doboma Movement, the radical group led by Burmese intellectuals in the struggle for unity and independence, is the focus of this account by Khin Yi. The study focuses on the years 1930 to 1938 and recounts the Thakin movement's founding by Thakin Ba Thoung, its phenomenal growth, and its sudden split in 1938 (known as The Year of Strife). Though ultimately unsuccessful--divided as it was by a wide range of political views and unable to effectively translate these ideas into policy-t-he Doboma Asiayone produced such leaders as the father of Burmese independence, Aung San. 1988. 160 pages.
