Faizah Zakaria

Faizah Binte Zakaria is a post-doctoral fellow at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Originally a mathematics teacher at a junior college, she has since ventured further afield to explore matters closer to her heart: environmental, social and subaltern histories in the linguistically and racially diverse Southeast Asian region she calls home. While at Cornell, she intends to write journal articles and revise her thesis for publication. Her work broadly focuses on issues of environmental change among indigenous communities in the uplands of Southeast Asia, inter-ethnic relations between majorities and minorities in the region and the impact of globalization on human relationships with the natural world.
